The Wicked Pacific is a new digital storytelling platform focused on the Pacific Islands. But
why wicked? Well, I checked the dictionary and like this website intends to do, ‘wicked’
conveys many shades of meaning –
evil, sinful, immoral, wrong, bad, iniquitous, corrupt, roguish, shady – but also mischievous,
playful, naughty, rascally, devilish, cheeky and raffish; and still, as if refracted by the waters
of an inshore reef, other shades emerge – superior, outstanding, remarkable, dazzling,
heavenly, stellar, ace, and very cool.
TWP plans to excavate the surface area and reveal the many sides and dimensions of ailan
culture and promises to do so with respect for language, curiosity of mind, honesty of
intellect and openness of heart.
TWP will apply and navigate professional ethics with equanimity, present new perspectives,
challenge false narratives and will never quote an anonymous source. TWP will surveil broad
trends but always dig and poke into the detail, whether the devil is in there or not. TWP will
be visual in both its words and images and like birds of paradise, visible and audible in the
digital forest, but never lost.
